You Need a Platform - Living a Story

La-Tan Murphy

La-Tan Murphy leads off Assignment 3 with an assignment designed to help you begin your platform. You hear talk of building a platform constantly. But what is a platform? It's your tribe. Those folks you can reach out to who will help you promote your book or your speaking.

Platforms are not given to us automatically - they are built. And they are not built over night. It requires work, networking, communication with civic groups, churches, friends, social media, etc. to reach the group or groups of folks your work will appeal to. La-Tan has designed this lesson to help you build your platform by first knowing who you are.

Remember to Pray

If it's not one thing it's another. It seems the last few weeks before boot camp all kinds of junk begins to happen. Beginning with our email. It's important you check your spam for our email through Mailchimp. Mark us as safe. You may see [email protected] or mail82.atl51.rsgsv.net. This is Mailchimp. Otherwise, I am posting these newsletters on the website and
and taking additional time to send them in small groups. The goal is for you to get what you need. The closer
we get to boot camp, the more information you will receive about your check-in at the Cove, your meals,
where the classes are held, etc. So MARK US AS SAFE.

Here are our prayer requests this week:

Pray that folks will get their information. If you have friends attending, check with them and be sure they are getting the emails.
Pray for good weather
Pray for open hearts and minds
Pray for the attitude of humility
Pray for our faculty
Pray for your own learning
Pray for your call to write and the clarity you need to step out in faith to be a writer.
Pray for our conferee who's newborn grandchild is going through chemo
Pray for our conferee who is facing surgery
Pray for our conferee who is struggling in her family
Pray for our conferee who is seeking to find God's direction in his work.

CONFERENCE MP3s & CRITIQUE/MENTORING

Every conference you attend can become a year-round conference IF you purchase the mp3s. We offer all our classes and the keynotes for $15. You'll get EVERY class to have to listen to year-round. Terri Kelly and I always purchase the conference cds, or mp3s at the conferences we attend so that we have learning at our fingertips. Last summer as I drove to Pennsylvania, I listened to the entire 2015 Blue Ridge Christian Writers Conference. For 7 hours I was immersed in one-on-one teaching. I still refer to my 2014 Write to Publish cd's, and my 2014 Greater Philadelphia cds.

Our mp3s are very inexpensive. We do this so you have access to all the classes and you don't have to worry about missing something. Consider purchasing the mp3s at the Boot Camp Book Store.

About Mentoring and Critiques

The cut off for critiques and mentoring appointments was February 8. If you still want a critique or mentoring, check with Terri Kelly to see if there are any mentoring spots available or critique spots. Our faculty needs plenty of time to do these critiques, and if you are doing mentoring, then your mentor needs additional time to work through your manuscript. Contact Terri Kelly at [email protected] Terry will contact you with all the information you need.

15- Minute Appointments

What is a 15-minute appointment? These are appointments you can make at boot camp, at no additional charge, with our faculty, editors, publishers, and agents. These folks are waiting to chat with you about your work-in-progress, listen to you pitch your project, or answer questions you may have about publishing. Once you get to Boot Camp, Terri Kelly will fill you in on signing up for appointments. I encourage you to do this. It's great practice to learn how to sit on the other side of the table and talk with writing professionals.

If you have a book you'd like to enter, the prize is a possible book contract.

The winning book will receive a plaque and will be sent to the publishing board of Lighthouse Publishing of the Carolinas where the board will consider it for a book contract. Please note: all winning books are not "publication ready." Therefore the winning book must meet all the publication board requirements in order to receive a book contract.
